A mahjong box has two jobs: protect 160 tiles in transit, and be the thing the buyer opens on the table. The magnetic flip lid does the second one — it opens like a book and stays open, so whatever is printed on the inside is part of the presentation.
The inside lid is the best page you own
Most packaging puts everything on the outside, where it competes with a shelf. A flip lid gives you a full printed panel inside — a tile reference chart, a short brand story, the rules card, or a map of the set. It is the first thing a player sees with the box open, and it is the cheapest page you will ever print.
Send the panel artwork with the rest of the design; the chart in a mahjong set is usually the busiest page, and it is the one that shows off the print.
Print quality, inside and out
Full-bleed CMYK on both surfaces. In practice the hard part is not the colour, it is the wrap: a rigid box is printed flat and folded, so artwork has to cross a corner without a white sliver appearing at the edge.
What we hold to:
- Colour matched across panels. The lid, the sides and the inner panel come off the same sheet, so the brand colour does not shift from face to face.
- No white edges at the folds. Bleed runs around the fold, not up to it.
- Registration held on small type. The reference chart in the photos has 3 pt labels — that is the tolerance the press has to keep.
Made to your set
There is no standard size, because sets are not standard. We build the box to your packed dimensions: tile footprint, tile count, and whether racks, pushers or a mat travel inside.
Send the packed size and the insert plan. A box that fits the tiles but not the racks is the most common first-sample failure.
How pricing works
The band above — US$3–5 per box — covers a rigid box with a printed wrap inside and out and a magnetic closure, at the standard 200–1,000 piece range.
Where you land in the band depends on size (board area, not just tiles), inserts (foam, ribbon or a moulded tray), and quantity — 200 pieces sit at the top, 1,000 near the bottom. Freight is quoted separately.
Getting a quote
Minimum is 200 pcs, lead time about 2 weeks after artwork approval — the box is printed and folded, not moulded, so it moves faster than the tiles inside it.
Send the packed dimensions and the artwork by email or WhatsApp. If you are also ordering the set, quote them together: the box should be built around the assembled set, not guessed from the tile size.
